A Color Story

I always wear a lot of color. I was raised in sunny San Diego and bright colors have been a staple in my wardrobe ever since I was a little kid. Since moving to New York six years ago, I have received a lot of reactions to my colorful ways of dressing. I have heard everything from "Are you on vacation?" and "Have you just come from the beach?" to "Your colors made my day." It's interesting to hear how many people are actually afraid of wearing color, especially in New York City.

When I saw these two wonderful women walking through Lincoln Center I had to stop them and tell them how much I loved their fantastic expression of color. I hope they inspire us all to dress a little more colorfully.

Are any of you afraid of wearing color or do you embrace dressing bold and bright? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Boy, you've got me pegged! I'm so afraid of color I could take up a second career as a funeral director with my all black wardrobe. I so admire the women you feature in this blog.

I moved to Seattle from Kuala Lumpur. I was happy to pull out my vintage boiled wool coat in a lovely royal blue only to feel like a freak amongst the blacks and grays! Took a while to grow some to wear it but I'm glad I did. It always cheered me up!

Dear Ari Seth Cohen. First, thank you for your lovely blog which I referred to in my blog. I love the colors - really. I really tried many times, but always end up with the subdued classic style. However, I have a love of red and orange as I have as an accessory. Maybe I'm a little scared :))

Hello,
I too love colour, it lifts my mood and my soul.
I often get comments about the colourful way I dress but get told 'I couldn't wear that' .
I'm not extrovert but I suppose I'm confident in a quiet way.
Getting older means I ask myself ' if not now, when?'
I look at the colours nature gives us and think if she( Mother Nature) can do it, well so can I !

I love color! Just did a post about it.... color is a huge part of my life and my first consideration when dressing, making art, decorating... it's how I perceive my world! dulcy
ps... love your blog, and pass it on to all my blog reading friends.

I too love color, Ari! For 32 years, my clothing was rather subdued, the "dress for success" philosophy prevailed, as I was a successful Federal government professional. When I retired 9 years ago, color became my PASSION. It certainly enhances whatever I'm doing, even if I'm simply reading a book at home -- and frankly, color makes me HAPPY. Thank you for your blog and keep up your good work, please!!!

Well, I made a rainbow wardrobe and after the shock of that - I'm making monochrome (which, incidentally,I've always veered away from). People alway comment when I wear colourful clothes - I think it's a little bit of "I wish I had the nerve". Thanks for the continuing inspiration you post here.

My bright yellow rain coat cheers me up a dreary winter day. I always have a better day when I wear bright colors!

I have no fear of color. I wear a lot of colorful clothes but I also like brown. I often wish other people would dress more colorfully to brighten up the world but at the same time I like standing out a little bit.
