"You Made My Day"

This stunning lady was walking across Madison Ave when I noticed her wonderful coat, gloves, lovely red lipstick. I asked if I could take her photo and she kindly replied in French that she didn't speak English. My friend Fanny, a native French speaker, was with me and I asked if she would tell the woman that I thought she looked very beautiful and that I would like to take her photograph. Fanny asked and she replied that she had just received some very sad news and that my compliment had brightened her spirits and made her day. She posed for me on the corner of 65th and Madison, still a bit sad with a tinge of hope. Before she went on her way she gave Fanny and me a big hug and kiss on the cheek and told us that her day would be better now that she ran into us. It is she who truly made my day!

Ari, that is what life is about...random acts of kindness to brighten others days.

When I was a little girl at church they would sing "If you can make someone happy as I travel along life's way, then my living shall be in vain'. That is surely what you both achieved with this beautifully dressed mademoiselle! Awesome story and wonderful picture.

That's such a lovely story. It's just wonderful to know that, even without meaning to, you've brightened someone's day x

Ah, that is so sweet. She looks lovely but there is some sadness in her face.

Kindness is one of the greatest gifts we can give one another. And it's almost always reciprocal!

BTW, discovered your blog a few weeks ago and it inspired me to create one devoted to the 'young' women of Atlanta, Georgia.

Thanks, Ari - for inspiring so many of us.

Cheers in the new year.

This is a lovely post, Ari, and I've been wanting to say for a while that I especially love these woman-on-the-street posts. The posts about people you know are also very interesting and fun, of course, but the women who weren't expecting to be photographed, who just dress for themselves, are the most inspiring for me. Thanks for all your wonderful work!

Isn't it amazing how the little things in life (a smile, a hug, a kiss on the cheek) can lift our spirits?
Hooray!

What are the chances that you would see that woman in a busy city and make her day...Its so important to remember that you dont know HOW you might affect someone just with a word or two. This story is truly touching.

When we cross someone good-looking, well dressed, with a nice make-up or wearing a lovely colour, we should dare to say it, very often a simple, spontaneous compliment make your day!
(Sorry for my english, I'm french!)
