Gitte Lee: Once A Model Always A Model

[Photos and Text Ari Seth Cohen
I came across this gorgeous woman while shooting for Selfridges today and I couldn't stop snapping away. Her name is Gitte Lee, a former Danish model, and she was one of the most charming and elegant women I have ever met.

On another note, Maayan and I are having a great time reading all of your responses to our questions, so I thought I'd post it again below!
What's your age?
Male or female?
Where do you spend most of your time?
What are your hobbies?
What sort of work do you do?
What is your favorite era of style?

She is absolutely splendid, isn't she? And - aside from some classic makeup - au naturel, I'm sure. The lining of the jacket does it for me (but then, the loose fit of the trousers, the color palette, the jewelry, the hat, that fabulous pair of glasses, the Chanel shoes, the Hermes bag - all of it is glorious). I'd love to see how she dresses from day to day. I adore her sense of decorum, her courtesy towards others, her joy: as expressed in her style. Perhaps the word lady is passé, but Gitte Lee is - as the Commodores had it - *three times a lady*. (Ha!) I wish she'd still model professionally, and we could see her likes in Vogue and Harper's. When are they going to wise up? Fortunately, we do have Advanced Style - which is actually infinitely better, because the result of mature style and not the braggadocchio of 23 year olds.

London is something, even for someone who is used to New York. Right?

* I spend most of my time at home in a small beach side town in Australia, I have an auto immune disease and been very sick for about 12 years. I used to live in Sydney.
* Photography, drawing, reading, screen-printing, burlesque, going to gigs, singing, designing fashion, swimming and yoga
* I am a fashion designer, i used to do alternative modeling, I also sell my art and limited edition prints. i also work part time as a waitress.
* I dress in a victorian/gothic/elegant sort of a way, always in a steel boned corset. I do love the 40's, the 50's-pinup's, and the early Stevie Nick's aesthetic. (It's very similar to my mum's sense of style)

16, female. I spend most of my time in the garden of Dulwich Library. I love reading and learning languages. Mehh I just finished secondary school lol, off to sixth form in September. My favourite era of style has got to be the Golden Age of couture 1947-57. I am so in love with the silhouettes of the time and I'm pretty big on tailored cuts :)

62 year old female, retired nurse, I am a homebody, gardening, babysitting my 15month old grandson, vegetarian, blogger, avid reader, fan of BBC series and movies, most things Anglophile. I like casual classic clothing. Gitte Lee is my role model, her clothes are elegant and simple. I wish you would take more pictures of older, elegant women who are not necessarily THIN. How about the more voluptuous older woman? There is an entire segment of the population out there that I am not seeing. They can be beautiful, too.

Discovered your blog 2 weeks ago, and now go there a least a couple of times a day. Just bought your book "Advanced Style". Beautiful book!

Oh, I'm a 70-year-old female. Retired from the real estate field. I love to read, work on the computer, enjoy nature. Figure out my wardrobe and rearrange the house. My favorite way of dressing is classic. Gitte Lee has become my absolute idol. She is a knock-out and I'm trying to learn from her style.
