Style On The Upper West Side

This week has been quite exciting with Advanced Style being featured in Sunday's New York Times. If you didn't get a chance to see the article in the newspaper here is a link to the online edition http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/12/respect-your-elders/. It is so amazing to see the people I photograph being appreciated and being thought of as influencers because the definitely inspire me everyday.

Yesterday I stopped this stunning woman on the Upper West Side and asked her if I could take her photo. We talked about the New York Times article and she said that she loved what I was doing. I just love when women wear silk scarves in the hair and this woman's pink lipstick is an added touch of flair to her chic outfit.

She's very Audrey Hepburn.

And congrats! Now when are you going to write a book? :)

I just found your blog by accident, but you are a brilliant humanitarian! Proof that true style is all about character and personality, not dumb trends and feeling bad about yourself.

Stuck as I am in a frightful suburb in the Midwest, your blog is always just what I need to make me feel that there is still intelligence and beauty in the world. That you can still look good, and often even much better, as you mature.

At 53 I see much more of myself, and especially my potential, in the fabulous women you photograph, than I do in any of my neighbors. Unlike them, I won't be caught dead in flip-flops and a Green Bay Packer sweatshirt!

Congratulations on the NY Times article. You are doing a wonderful thing with this blog!

SNYT - what took them so long!
One of the things I admire about this site is that the inspirational dressers aren't on their way to a fashion show or being willingly victimized by the latest trend. Love what you do.

Well deserved indeed. It's a fabulous blog and an inspiration to all. This lady is chic, chic, chic. Usually, I think headscarves look frumpy but she rocks hers!

I just saw the article and came right here! I always see really outrageously and fabulously chic older women on the bus or just walking around and always think to myself (I'm in college): "When I get to that age, I want to have just as much style as she does!" I am so so glad that you're doing this and that I found you.

I love your blog. I've been folowing it for a while now and link to it on my own blog. Just in case you didn't know, here in Canada, there was a feature article in Saturday's Globe and Mail newspaper about Advanced Style, highlighting your blog in particular...yay!! good work :)
